What are the factors of 160 ?

When a number divides another number exactly , i.e. it leaves no remainder, then the divisor is called a factor of the dividend. To find the factors of the 160 , find the numbers which divide 160 completely, leaving no remainder.

160\div 4=40

160\div 5= 32

160\div 8= 20

160\div 10=16

160\div 16=10

160\div 20 =8

160\div 32=5

160\div 40=4

160\div 80=2

Thus  the factors of 160 are 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 10, 16, 20, 32, 40, 80 and 160. Similarly, the negative factors of 160 are -1, -2, -4, -5, -8, -10, -16, -20, -32, -40, -80 and -160.

How to calculate the factors of 160? 

Factors of 160 in pairs 

In this method write 160 as a product of two numbers. The two numbers which get multiplied together to result in 160 are called pair factors of 160.

We have 160=160  x 1

160= 2 x 80

160= 4 x 40

160=  5 x 32

160 = 8  x  20

160=16 x  10

\therefore   All the factors of  are 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 10, 16, 20, 32, 40, 80 and 160.

Since the product of two negative numbers gives a positive number, the negative factors of 128 would be -1, -2, -4, -5, -8, -10, -16, -20, -32, -40, -80 and -160 .

Prime factorization of 160  

A factor of a given number is called a prime factor if this factor is a prime number (it has only two factors) . The process of expressing a given number as a product of prime factors is called a prime factorization or complete factorization of the given number.

Prime factorization  of 160 by using factor tree

Step 1. Divide 160 beginning with the smallest prime factor of 160, that is 2 .

Step 2. Next find the smallest prime factor of 80 and divide 80 by it.

Step 3. Continue dividing  by the smallest prime factor in every step.

Step 4. Stop when you get only prime numbers.

Thus the prime factorisation of 160 is 160= 2\times 2\times 2\times 2\times 2 \times 5=2^{5} \times 5

  and the prime factors of 160 are 2 and 5 .
